Spatial Reasoning TestTwo shapes appear. The second is turned. Decide whether it is the same shape rotated, or a mirror image. 15 rounds, timed.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Compare the two shapes

The left shape is the original. The right shape has been rotated by a quarter, a half or three-quarter turn.

  2. 2

    Same or mirror?

Choose "same shape" if it is just rotated, or "mirror image" if it has been flipped. Picture rotating one to match the other.

  3. 3

    See your score

After 15 shapes you get how many you judged correctly, your accuracy and your average time per shape.

When it comes in handy

Test mental rotation

See how well you turn shapes in your head, the skill behind reading maps and packing a boot.

Prep for aptitude tests

Many job and entrance tests include rotation questions, so this is a low-pressure way to practise the format.

Train spatial sense

Regular short runs help you get quicker and steadier at picturing objects from a different angle.

Frequently asked questions

What is spatial reasoning?
Spatial reasoning is your ability to picture objects and move them around in your mind: rotating, flipping and fitting shapes together without touching them. It is the sense you use to read a map, parallel park or imagine how flat-pack pieces go together.
How do I tell a rotation from a mirror?
Try to turn one shape in your head until it lines up with the other. If you can match it by rotating alone, it is the same shape. If matching it would need a flip — like turning a left hand into a right hand — it is a mirror image.
What counts as a good score?
Getting 12 or more out of 15 is a strong result, and most people land between 9 and 13 once they get the hang of it. Speed and accuracy trade off, so a high score with a quick average time is the real goal.
Are my best scores saved?
Your best result for each game is kept in your browser so you have something to beat next time. It lives only on this device, so clearing your browser data or switching to another device starts you fresh. Nothing is tied to an account because there is no account.
Does anything I do here get sent to a server?
No. Every game runs locally in your browser. Your scores and any text you type stay on your own device, nothing is uploaded, and nothing is logged or stored by us. Once the page has loaded it keeps working even if you go offline.
